My 2011-2012 School Year Resolutions

As an Asian a hard-working student, the end of summer and the beginning of the school year is an important time. Summer break is rapidly coming to a close, with only a little more than a week before school starts (September 6, for me). I figured this was a good time to write down some of my priorities – academic and non-academic – so I can come back to this post at the end of the calendar year and evaluate my failure success.

Before I forget, I’ll be a junior in high school. And you know what that means…

I'll get through these... eventually.

1. Study and succeed on the SAT, especially math. Okay, I’ve taken the SAT once already and scored decently… excluding the math section. I received a 590 (72%), paling in comparison to my performance on the reading and writing sections. I’m aiming for a 650, and people I’ve talked to say that to achieve that score only requires a lot of practice. Which brings us to #2…

The summer assignment I finally finished yesterday. Expect a review soon...

2. Stop procrastination. This is probably the most unrealistic goal on the list – I doubt anyone could completely staunch the desire to put things off until the next day, but it’s worth a shot. With three AP classes and two honors courses I’ll need to get things done as soon as possible, and hopefully after posting this I’ll at least get things done sooner than I usually do. Because when it all piles up, things turn nasty…

3. Don’t overreact. The Rapture turned out to be fake, and I bet I’ll live through 2012 and beyond. However, sometimes in my most stressed-out moments I cannot help but feel like the world is ending and everything I’ve worked for will turn into dust. It’s one of the few things I admit to inheriting from my mom: the tendency to blow things out of proportion when I’m overwhelmed. Thankfully, I’ve learned a few methods to cope with this, like focusing my attention on something else and transitioning into another activity. Speaking of activities…

4. Continue blogging. I might not be able to post daily or every other day like I have been lately, but I’ll definitely continue to post once a week or more. I love sharing my thoughts on various subjects through this blog, and I’m so appreciative of all the feedback I’ve received and the readers I’ve gained.

5. Stop self-deprecating. More on that here.

Enough about me. What are your school year/end of summer resolutions? Do we have any in common?

Cupcakes/ F(x) Teaser Photos

So I’ve been procrastinating a lot today. Look at what I made instead of doing my homework!

I actually made these yesterday with my best friend. Ladies, get in line…

Seriously, I have so many backlogged drafts right now, ranging from topics like Britney Spears to V-neck sweaters. I just don’t have the time to write about all the things I’m constantly thinking about. I wish I did though. Maybe if I invent a time machine…

Therefore, instead of writing about something that requires me to think logically, I will spam photos of one of SM’s latest activities! AKA, F(x) promotions (April 20 is nine days away! Nine is a lucky number in Vietnamese! Or something…).

The F(x) teaser pics are spectacular. I love their style in general – it’s retro but not over the top, and makes me curious to see what “Pinocchio” is all about. I even heard from somewhere that there will be Russian folk dancing. Don’t quote me on that.

So excited! I like how they made a pattern with releasing Krystal, Sulli, and Luna with face shots while Amber and Victoria get full body shots. They all look in their element and ready to wow with the release of “Pinocchio”. The group picture is so chic and stylish – I cannot wait for the video teaser that will be released April 15th.

What do you think of these f(x) teaser pics? I’d love to hear fellow fans’ thoughts. Also, if you’re interested in a guy who can bake cupcakes, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below including your phone number… or drop off a little something nice in my contact information box. Just kidding. Sort of. (;

PS: Is anyone else jealous of Victoria’s legs? I know I am… (yes, I might be male. Just maybe)

The (in)effectiveness of To-Do Lists

As I stated in my previous post, I have been inundated with a myriad of everyday tasks such as schoolwork and the like (high-five for the SAT vocab, anyone? Internet hug? Please?)

Anyway, I constructed a to-do list early last week. Sunday night I wrote all the things I wanted to accomplish Monday. You can see the list below.

I had to put pencils over the things that contained personal information, because I'm secretly in the FBI. You know...

Throughout the day as I completed each task I highlighted it and proceeded to feel amazing because I could track all of my achievements. It was going splendidly until 10:oo PM Monday night…

I had just finished my last tidbit of homework. Then, as I scanned over my almost finished list, I experienced something only a bit short of an epiphany, a realization of sorts – there were two things that I had to do before 11:00 PM, when I wanted to go to sleep. I had the choice of either watching It’s Academic on NBC, or studying SAT Math for half an hour. I knew I couldn’t do both, because SAT math is an abhorrent abomination designed specifically to slaughter my brain cells.

So, as the over-achieving Asian I am, I decided to do neither and read instead. Hey, it’s better than fanboying SHINee and Key for hours on end. Not like I do that or anything. Cough.

Do you find to-do lists useful? I would have continued with them, but I realized that if I don’t get one thing done my OCD kicks in and sends me spiraling into depression. Yeah…

I missed the trash can.
